Tantallon’s history

Tantallon sits in the Qu'Appelle Valley along the Qu'Appelle River, in the Rural Municipality of Spy Hill No. 152. The community was founded in 1904 and incorporated as a village on June 17 of that year. It marked its centennial in 2004.

The name comes from a homestead. Scottish Canadian James Moffat Douglas, a former Member of Parliament and Senator, named the homestead "Tantallon" because this part of the Qu'Appelle Valley reminded him of Tantallon Castle in Scotland.

Today the village has an ice rink and a seniors' centre. The local school closed when there were too few students, and children are now bused to Esterhazy.
